Overview
Axis cameras handle accounts differently than most IP cameras. Most cameras use a single login for everything — video streaming and management. Axis separates these into two distinct account types: a media account (for RTSP video) and an ONVIF account. Using the wrong login with the wrong stream path is one of the most common reasons video won't display on an Axis camera.
Understanding Axis RTSP Paths
Axis cameras support two RTSP stream paths, and each one requires its own specific login:
axis-media/media.amp → Media account credentials
onvif-media/media.amp → ONVIF account credentials
Using media account credentials on an onvif-media path is the #1 cause of blank video on Axis cameras. Mixing them will cause the stream to fail silently — no error, just no video.
How to Fix It
There are two ways to resolve this, depending on your setup:
Option 1 — Keep the onvif-media path, update the credentials
In your camera settings, replace the current login and password with your Axis ONVIF account credentials.
Option 2 — Keep the media credentials, change the path
Update the stream address to use axis-media/media.amp, and confirm your media account login and password are entered.
Either option works — what matters is that the path and credentials match.
Once you've made the change, save your settings and reload the camera stream. If video loads, the credentials and path are now correctly matched. If it still doesn't load, double-check that you saved the right credentials for the path you chose.
Quick Rule
The main rule: the path and the login/password must match each other. Don't mix them. If there's no video — check this pair first.
Axis Video Not Showing?
Axis cameras require matching credentials for each stream path. Here's how to get it right.
